Jeanette Habash (b. 1995, Skokie, IL) is a Palestinian-American artist based in Chicago, IL. She studies at North Park University where she is receiving her B.A. in Fine Arts.
Questions within life, loss, and memory are integrated in the surface of her paintings. The subjects are mainly Palestinian figures: historical and from her own life. She draws reference from old photographs from discovering meaning in them. Interested in the physicality of paint and presence of her subject, she is intentional about her surfaces. It is through the physical process that she wrestles with the paintings being. Working intuitively, she is guided by the surface texture, leaving paint marks that are a record of her actions. Her viewer can imagine the construction of the work, lending a window into her painting process.
