Haley Manchon was born in a small town outside of Philadelphia and currently lives in Baltimore working towards her BFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has worked as a studio assistant for Kelly Sullivan, a fine artist based in New Jersey.
Haley creates new compositional challenges for herself with these works but also retains the familiarity of the media she's most comfortable using, therefore creating a balance between explorative, intimidating ideas and a confident hand. As she began her work in this past year, Haley started to focus on working with colored pencil specifically. With this medium, she works small but has the ability to create tight, illusionistic imagery. Haley is interested in using digital static as a means of distortion. She draws the distortion by hand by creating a system of grids and colors.
