Ryan Koning currently attends Luther College located in Northeast Iowa and will be graduating with a B.A. in studio art and education in 2019. She works mostly through oil painting and hand-sculpting with stoneware clay.
Much of her work is inspired by the concepts of relationships, comfortability, and empathy. Her figure paintings are completed from life, which provides her with an opportunity to connect with her sitters and attempt to portray not only his or her like she, but also the intimate relationship between sitter and painter. She also uses still life to capture emotional nuance by portraying mundane and often overlooked subjects that offer a sense of nostalgia or comfort. Through sculpture, she is able to exaggerate the human experience by creating a moment that extends into the viewer's personal space and enhances relatability between viewer and object.
