Yoerie Ramaekers is a drawing arts student in Gent. His work consists mainly of drawings, collages and video art.
The focus in his work is the portrait and the self-portrait. In his drawings, he uses lines and dots to depict a portrait. These lines and dots each have a function: to depict hair, clothing and contours (the line) and to depict details such as wrinkles, light and shadow (the dot). This way of drawing is also the base of his wall drawings and animation.
Although his work is composed of several mediums they have a common aspect, the ‘cut’. This is not the basis for his drawings but it is applied later on in the drawing process. His photographic work could be considered as collage because he doesn’t present the pictures as artworks but they are the base of his collage artworks. Here the portraits, all from Hitchcock movies, are the main subject. A newer medium is video, his video tests based on his wall drawings are the base for short animations where the self-portrait is the main subject. The same drawing style from his drawings and wall drawings is also used in other animation work. Here it is about translating a stationary two-dimensional image into a moving drawn image and how it contrasts with each other.
