Julie Sharpe is a 17-year-old artist from Springfield, Missouri.
Her work is primarily concerned with conveying ideas about family and politics. She uses both observation-based and imagination-based techniques to convey these ideas, but she is more imaginative with political art and more observational with art about family. She works with media including charcoal, oil paint, paper cut, collage, and digital programs.
Her observational work deals with the figure, specifically faces and torsos. She enjoys telling stories through body language and composition in addition to experimenting with different media. She has been making observational work for most of her life while the majority of her political work has been made within the past few months as she views it necessary to comment on America’s increasingly unstable government.
Her ultimate goal is to make work that spurs emotion, whether it is a humorous reaction to political commentary or solidarity with cultural work.
